Making Tracks

I had mentioned before a piece I did for friend and author, J Daniel Sawyer. Well, I got to do another one, the next in his instructional series.

Making Tracks BG2

This one was a bit of a challenge since I was originally presented with just the abstract idea of how to visually show the transition of text-to-audio and, If I could help it, I wanted to capture the title as well as the theme. After making over a dozen thumbnails and getting some feedback from Dan, we worked it down to this. It’s an image I feel good about and look nice on the cover.

If you’re an author and want to do a podcast ready adaptation of your work, I really recommend this. If you need proof of Dan’s chops here, check out his podcasts for Sculpting God and Antithesis Book 1. (links for those are in the sidebar of his site.)

Merch an’ Swag an’ Stuff

One of the other things I dusted off this week was my Zazzle store, which I dreamed might be my own private version of Threadless, but seems to have turned into my own private version of Tee Shirt Hell.

So far, I’ve just put up mostly old designs that I had fun making. Later on, I might make designs specifically to sell in the store. Fun fact: This was my first and so far “best selling”.

Aaaaaand we’re back!

My poor, neglected blog!

I’m sorry I we haven’t done much together and I feel bad about that, though I’m sure it’s for reasons you understand. … Yeah, school was getting to me and the tools I would want to use to express and promote myself online weren’t high on my my priorities list, whether they should have been or not.

I was surprised and comforted that you had actually been patiently waiting for me all this time, while I want to question the wisdom of it, I’m just so glad to be back that I don’t care.

I’ve been busy in the last couple of days and I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve been up to with you. …What? oh lots of stuff. …Yeah, we can get together later and tell you about it, then.

Sure, Laters! ūüôā

ASCE Mid-Pac 2011

So last year (wait does it still count as last year or two years ago? *checks calendar* still last year, gotcha.) I was¬†approached¬†to do some logo work for Sacramento State’s American¬†Society¬†of Civil¬†Engineers¬†(ASCE) as part of¬†their¬†annual¬†Mid-Pac event, which that year, was being hosted at that campus.

The work was somewhat challenging, as I needed to graphically represent all the aspects/events being held: there was environmental concerns, water resources, and bridge building and concrete canoe competitions.

The result is one that they seemed happy with and I thought was one of my more successful concepts.

Throwing Lead

Recently, I had done some work for author J Daniel Sawyer. What he needed from me was cover art for his charming instructional guide. This was a lot of fun to do and since this is the first in a series, as long he thinks I’m a good fit for the work, I wanna keep doing it.

By way of shameless self promotion, I’d encourage you to go check it out!
